A Journey from St Petersburg to Peking (1965) by John Bell – Edinburgh University Press
Offered by Crappy Old Books – where timeworn travelogues meet timeworn paper.

Originally penned in the 18th century by Scottish diplomat and adventurer John Bell, and revived in this crisp (well, formerly crisp) 1965 Edinburgh University Press edition, A Journey from St Petersburg to Peking charts Bell’s remarkable trek across Tsarist Russia, Siberia, and into imperial China. Expect snow, politics, camels, and cultural encounters galore—all told in that stoic, slightly bewildered tone only a Glaswegian in a fur hat can truly deliver.

Our copy? Lovingly battered. Faded cover, foxed pages, a hint of pipe smoke, and possibly a pressed insect from Outer Mongolia.

Crappy Old Books – For readers who like their history with the dust still on it.

This is a near new copy with its dust jacket in a protective plastic sleeve. Near perfect condition, with just a slight buckling of the back cover, only noticable because the book as a whole is so pristine. The mark on the front cover to bottom right is on the plastic sleeve and might wash off with some effort and maybe a cleaning fluid of some sort. The mark to the bottom left is actually the cloth book beneath the dust jacket. This book is exceptionally preserved.
